- Abstract
The objective of the text is to analyze sociocultural factors that are associated with the interruption of the scientific journal Gazeta Medica da Bahia, which occurred in 1935. Created in Bahia in 1866, by an association of independent doctors, the magazine presented a methodology and an investigative perspective for medicine tropical that surpassed geographical and epistemological barriers. Thus, this investigation of an applied nature, with a qualitative approach, through a bibliographic and documentary study, seeks to identify some aspects that led to the suspension of the periodical between 1935 and 1965, resurfacing in 1966, the centenary year of its foundation. the proposed objective, the literature review and systematic observation of the journal were adopted as a data collection tool. It appears that scientific medical journals underwent significant changes at the beginning of the 20th century, influenced by issues relating to form and content. Thus, some periodicals originating in the 19th century were affected by these transformations, due to the maintenance of a tradition evidenced in another historical, political, social and cultural period. The resurgence of the Gazeta in 1966 reveals an adaptation to the aspects of the time relating to the editing of publications, meeting requirements considered relevant, such as the rules for article submission, structured in sections, summary in a foreign language and list of references. However, its stay on the editorial circuit was short-lived, being suspended again in 1972, which suggests new investigations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
